So, I had a few different ideas about what to share this month, and have had a hard time deciding what I was being led to. I Corinthians 13: 4-8a says:
4 Love is patient; love is kind. Love does not envy; is not boastful; is not conceited; 5 does not act improperly; is not selfish; is not provoked; does not keep a record of wrongs; 6 finds no joy in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends. These verses are often read at weddings, and honestly Robin and I had them read at ours…in context. The entire Love Chapter is not about the love between a man and woman, even though many of the principles can be applied to that relationship. Ultimately, no human can truly love without knowing Christ, because God is love. The love Christians have for one another is what identifies us, it is what separates us from the world. We are to love one another despite our differences, our short comings, and yes our sins. Does this mean we ignore sin? Of course not, but we confront one another in love and with the intent of restoration, not tearing one another down. Paul says earlier in the chapter that we can speak in different languages, we can prophesy, we can give all our possessions away, and we can even give up our lives, but if we do not love our acts are useless. Who do you need to show love to today? Maybe it is your spouse. Maybe it is a fellow Christian you have a rift with. Maybe it is the person you sit next to at church, or across the aisle. Only you know. Read I Corinthians 13 in context today, pray, and then act in and out of love.
Easter cantata rehearsal has begun. We are always eager for more people to be a part of the choir. If rehearsals are difficult for you, but you have a talent you want to share, please let me know. I would be happy to include you in our special music rotation, even if it is not music you want to share. Also, we will be continuing with the testimony portion of our services at various times during the month. If you have a testimony you want to share, let me know and I will include you in the schedule.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-11 says:

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
9 What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
It is a new year. 2012 has begun and we will see many changes. We will see loved ones born, we will see loved ones taken home to be with our Savior. We will see marriages, we will see war. We may see a change in power in our government, we will see many changes of power around the world. God has appointed a time for everything under the sun. What has God appointed for you to do? Do you need to seek forgiveness? Do you need to offer forgiveness we have been withholding. Do you need to become involved in a current ministry or start a new one? What has God laid on your heart for the coming year? Instead of making a resolution you won’t keep, earnestly seek the one thing God wants for you and commit to accomplish that through His will and power.
Choir will began rehearsal again on January 8th as will Children in Action. I enjoyed helping the children prepare their program, but I am looking forward to studying our missionaries again. Please pray for both groups as we seek God’s will.
